Wisdom and Earnings

The wisest person ever to live on planet earth, if he were alive today, could have purchased Microsoft from Bill Gates in the morning and executed a take over of Berkshire Hathaway from Warren Buffet over afternoon tea. This person in a conversation with God was asked (now I am going to stop right there as it seems unfair that he has that kind of an advantage doesn’t it? I mean conversation with the creator of the Universe?  Really?)

“Ask whatever you want me to give you.”

This person, this leader, responded by asking for insight and wisdom.

In the conversation God then replied, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have you asked for death to your enemies but for discernment in administering justice I will do what you asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so there will never have been anyone like you nor will ever be. Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for–both wealth and honor–so that in your lifetime there will be no equal among Kings.”

This conversation is recorded for all history in the book of the Bible known as First Kings, Chapter 3. For clarification the conversation did occur in a dream so it might not have been actually real. Then again David’s son from the woman, not his wife at the time, Bathsheba, is the legendary King Solomon.

I find it interesting that one born from an inconvenient pregnancy after an evening of adulterous passion, someone who could be easily cast off in today’s culture, becomes a person who converses with God in dreams. This gives weight to the concept that we all carry weight with God.

SO HOW IN THIS WORLD DO WE GET WHAT SOLOMON HAD?

HOW DO WE PURSUE WISDOM BEFORE EARNINGS?

Do you think the directional dreams gave way to something else?

Could those conversations happen during the daytime?

What if it were possible to create just such a place to produce just such conversations?

Do you think Solomon had such a place? We don’t know for sure, but our creative imagination can certainly weigh in here.

The picture at the top of this post is of a very special place for me. I call it my womb room. Every home I have ever lived in has had a sacred place for me to be continually formed.

That chair in the middle of the room was left to me by my grandfather Musick after his death in 1977. He used to sit in that chair roll his own cigarettes with tobacco from a red and green foil pouch and drink stiff coffee in the morning from a cup the size of an urn. When I was a little boy he would invest hours pouring into me the wisdom of his years.

Notice the chair covering doesn’t match the rest of the décor of the room. It is still the thin threadbare original fabric. When I sit in this space I can almost smell him with the old spice after shave on an always clean shaven face, old tobacco and coffee aroma from the cup on the end table.

KING SOLOMON HAD RESPONSIBILITIES CARRYING SUBSTANTIAL WEIGHT

Raising a family, being a contributing part of a community, holding down a job, maybe two, while not the weight of Solomon nonetheless it is weighty in the here and now.

I believe Solomon had a womb room.

I believe it is possible to create sacred geography in the here and now. Places from which celestial conversations can take place providing the very insight and wisdom many of us all seek but few seem to find.

Do you believe that is possible?

What does your womb room look like?

Now I can’t buy all of Microsoft or Berkshire Hathaway but I do have a place to get found when I lose my way. Back into the womb room for another lesson on insight and wisdom from the greatest Father of all.

IF YOU WERE TO CREATE SUCH A SACRED SPACE WHERE YOU LIVE

WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?

Bigger question, if you did, do you think the God of Solomon would come and inhabit that space with you?
