Even around some of those on the planet with whom I am closest I too often hear this lament. That may be “slightly true” if comparison is being made to some friends who seem to have been born with a extra dose of creativity. BUT…that is not true in an absolute sense.
Everyone has some measure of creativity. Everyone. Because, I believe everyone, you, me, everyone has been created by the Creator. Thus, I believe, I know that the “creative gene” is in everyone…and I know that is the truth!
Of all the 8 dimensions of LDG’s Mentoring Model, The Circle of Life, this, being creative, seems to be the hardest to own by some good souls. Somehow there is the gentle, to not-so-gentle lie in the air that just because someone is not Michelangelo, or Mozart or Steve Jobs, reincarnated, then the assumption is that “I’m not creative…” It is a deep delight, in our whole-person mentoring model, to help men and women of all ages realize that that is just not true. Everyone is creative.
Too often overlooked or minimized is this vital dimension of our lives. For all of us, this we call the…
Creative, Innovative, Designful, Playful Dimension.
…for short we call it, C.I.D.P.
The essence definition is:
“…experiencing the delight
of inspiration, invention, artistic expression….
…originality…
…using imagination and talents
to enrich our lives and impact others…”
We often do not give ourselves creative credit because of the unfortunate habit of comparing ourselves to someone else. We can admire what others have done, but when we use their accomplishment to sabotage who we are, that is not fair, not even healthy, as we learn to be alive in all the dimensions of our own life.
Look, again, at some of the key words that make up the “essence definition” of this whole-life dimension:
Inspiration…
…where have you been inspired by some original idea or thoughts in any of the dimensions of your own life?
Imagination…
…what do you dream of building, creating, starting, leaving as a legacy?
Talents…
…what can you be about that is enriching, fun or unusual or in a way more practiced than others?
Originality…
…in what areas have you thought of something new, or taken a view of a problem from a different angle to help get past a roadblock with a friend, at work, at home, within your self?
Through LDG’s Whole-life Mentoring Model we want to help you, and others, find those places in your life where you exercise talent, imagination, originality or inspiration to enrich others and help them thrive. That becomes possible as you seek to know and release within your own life the creative, innovative, design-filled, playful person you, too, were created to be in all 8 dimensions of your own “wild and precious life.”
We are whole people capable of being creative.
That is the way we were each designed to be.
All of us. YES. You, too.
We each have a significant, intentional and stunning mixture of character,
talent and experience that makes each one of us unique.
We are like no other.
Ever, from the past. Ever, into the future.
…and that IS the truth.
……all that said……
Allow me to introduce to you, if you don’t know about him already, a deep-hearted, humble, extremely gifted emerging artist I’ve spent some mentoring moments with in days past. If ever one does, this gifted man knows his gift is from God.
So much could be said about Jake Weidmann. So much has already been written and filmed about him. So much will continue to be written, watched, spoken of him, as his sacred talent is flat-out rare.
Begin here.
Here is another man’s clear thoughts about Jake.
I encourage you to watch this video from Uproxx and this one from Vimeo and to read what these sites say about Jake’s multiple giftings. Do take the time to watch, listen, ponder…and know that you, too, need to be often exercising your own creativity.
This is from an outstanding TEDxMileHigh talk…that got Jake a standing ovation in Denver!…and one presentation that I ask most of those I mentor to watch…several times around…when thinking about C.I.D.P.
I hope you will keep coming back to Jake’s website, to keep up with his latest meaning-filled creations. You will also notice that his limited edition work can be a part of your own home or office. We sincerely enjoy having some of his outstanding work hanging in our own home.
Jake…thank you for inspiring all of us to also be creative, innovative, designful and playful. We do look forward to what you are creating next.
